Here’s a question:
how many times do you scroll through
your Instagram timeline each day?
If the answer is too many, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
We share our favourite #instasnaps here first…
Reminding us to never forget what we're worth - whether that's jobs, relationships, family or friends - Mel B shared this glowing snap of her basking in the sunshine, complete with heartfelt caption showing just how far she's come during the last 12 months. "...just hold your head up high breath and let karma do all the work, trust and believe she will!!![sic]"
If we needed any more reasons to love OITNB's Uzo Aduba (aka "Crazy Eyes"), it's her latest post which includes an excerpt from a speech for Glamour Magazine in honour of International Women's Day. She recalls once asking her mum if she could change her name to Zoe, and Mama Aduba's wise words in response ... (which are worth a listen).
Why settle for one Beyoncé when six will do? In her latest post, Queen Bey was seen sporting stunning bronzed pins, tweed shorts, ruffle neck denim top and some sleek stiletto courts. But what caught our attention the most was Bey's beautiful blue lipstick. We especially liked the comment by Instagrammer @christiesamarani: "when you give up on friendship and become your own squad." Couldn't have put it better ourselves.
Flying the flag for Brit fashion was Rihanna last week's Fenty Beauty launch, sporting in a Molly Goddard pastel lilac frock (complete with Fenty Beauty make-up of course). Spell attending the party held at Harvey Nichols where Rihanna manned the DJ decks and partied into the early hours. Click here to see our top picks from the collection.
We were almost moved to tears by this sweet dedication by Serena Williams to her beloved mum following the birth of her little girl Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. One the left side was a snap of said tot swaddled in a pink towel, while her legendary mum Serena is on the right, ruling the Wimbledon court. This pretty much sums up how 21st Century mothers are completely bossing it. (Visit Serena's Reddit profileto read Serena's words in full.)
Representing women of colour at the Emmy awards was screenwriter, producer and actress Lena Waithe (who was the first black woman to win for Comedy Writing for her work on the "Thanksgiving" episode of Netflix's Master of None), pictured here with her fellow winners Riz Ahmed, Stephen Glover and Donald Glover. Riz snapped the photo with the simple caption "we here."
Sporting her signature quiff and bowtie, Janelle Monae wished the former president a happy birthday, and whilst showing off her Game of Thrones fan credentials in the captions "FROM HOUSE OF BLACK EXCELLENCE. FIRST OF HIS NAME. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ONE TRUE KING of the NORTH. FROM THIS DAY UNTIL THE LAST. THE NORTH REMEMBERS... PRESIDENT"
Essence magazine celebrated the late, great Whitney Houston's birthday with a throwback snap of her in a fetching flower motif frock. To the woman who arguably defined everything wonderful about 80s hair and make-up (and gave us some of the greatest love ballads of the 90s), we hope you're celebrating wherever you are.
She may be dressed in what looks like a pretty ballerina outfit, complete with floral earrings. But a pint-sized Solange in this throwback snap manages to style it out with bags of attitude, cementing her current status as a style icon. If only we looked as cool as this in our own childhood photos ...
If anyone was going to inspire us to grow our own veg, it’s the formidable Ms Winfrey. Here she is proudly brandishing a carrot and spuds she’d just picked, free from pesticides and other nasties you might otherwise encounter. Of course, no outdoorsy endeavour is complete without a stylish hat, shades and a chic wicker basket. Race you to the allotment!
Giving us all the hair goals is former Daily Show correspondent and star of her own Netflix show (The Incredible Jessica James) Jessica Williams. She shared this snap taken from a feature in The New York Times, suggesting we’ll be hearing a lot more from this multi-talented twenty-something over the next few months.
As her sister had to sit out due to pregnancy, American tennis star Venus Williams was the talk of Wimbledon, as she beat UK hopeful Johanna Konta to qualify for the final. She was snapped celebrating her semi-final victory with a clenched fist, and even though she lost out to Garbine Muguruza, she certainly did the USA proud in Serena's absence.
What's the fun in planking if you don't have a beloved pet around for comedy value? Comedian Amy Schumer shared this adorable picture of her pint-sized mutt happily settled underneath her tummy on her mat, while she tried to work her core muscles over the top of him. If that doesn't give her an excuse to hold that pose for a few more minutes, we don't know what will...
Giving us all the eyeliner goals is Ella Eyre who snapped herself sporting this stunning "floating liner" look. Given her caption, the bold beauty statement was done more out of frustration than anything else. "sprouting grey hairs tryna get the god damn eyeliner straight 😑😑😑 sacked it off half way and imma roll with it [sic]"
Now why can't we look like this when we wake up bleary-eyed at misery o'clock to catch a flight? #passtheredbull Oh, because we're not superstar Kelis, that's why. (And we're guessing she doesn't have to contend with the Gatwick Express, either...) We might not have Kelis's jet-setter lifestyle, but we might give those gorgeous hooped twist braids a try...
New mama Beyoncé shared pictures of her newborn twins Rumi and Sir Carter (both of which have been copywrited in true Carter-Knowles style). But this was no cute family snap, with Queen Bey smiling tiredly with the babies huddled on her chest - oh no. As an homage to her artistic pregnancy photo shoot, Bey was pictured in full goddess-like regalla - as befitting the First Lady of pop. (We're hoping she finds time to crash out on the sofa in her PJs!)
Anyone who feels unsure about having children should check out this snap by Jamelia, that’s giving us all the parenting goals. The presenter and singer shared this adorable snap with her two little girls, both of whom are clearly as photogenic as their famous mum (and with great taste in trainers too…).
It’s not enough that her parents happen to be the most glamorous and coolest people on the planet , baby Luna is also BFFs with the Easter Bunny. The lucky tot was snapped with the smartly attired rabbit, along with parents Chrissy Teigen and John Legend who looked equally thrilled to have him hop round.
The Kardashian-Jenner sisters starred in a campaign to celebrate their new liquid lipsticks collaboration for Kylie’s cosmetics line. It sees the two looking slightly mannequin-like, with matching Mona Lisa hair, nude make-up and immaculate brows. (Isn’t it annoying when your little sister always copies you?)
It was certainly all right on the night for Moonlight star Naomie Harris, who showed up on the red carpet with this simple strappy white dress, taken up a notch by the front slit and wedding dress-like train. Moonlight won best film (after that major mishap!) and Naomie shone in the fashion ranks too.
At the recent Brits ceremony Little Mixer Leigh-Anne Pinnock was channelling an early 90s Madonna crossed with an early noughties Britney Spears (“the Justin Timberlake/ his ‘n’ hers denim years”). Paired with a chic topknot, not many could pull off this look, but Ms Pinnock just about manages it, in her own inimitable way.
Naomie’s so good she deserves another entry this week. It takes a lot of work – and beauty admin – to be an Oscar nominated movie star. Here Naomie Harris aka Miss Moneypenny enjoys some well-deserved pampering with facialist Michaella Bolder ahead of the BAFTAs (where she was nominated for both her role in ‘Moonlight’ and for a ‘Rising Star Award’).
Following on from last year’s #oscarssowhite controversy, black actresses have had thankfully more prominence at this year’s awards ceremonies – case in point are the three Oscar nominees Viola Davis (Fences) Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) and Ruth Negga (Loving) who were snapped looking stunning at the 8th Annual Oscar's Sistahs Soiree.
If you’ve created your own lipstick line, you’re probably not afraid to sport a statement killer rouge. Such is the case with Florence Adepoju, founder of MDM Flow who was snapped at London Fashion Week sporting this enviable lippie, contrasted with a layered hoodie and jacket for the ultimate smart-casual combo.
You’ve probably already clapped eyes on this jaw-dropping snap of HRH Queen Bey bearing a belly full of twins, draped in a Madonna-style veil with a full on floral backdrop (well, if you’re Beyoncé why the hell not?). But it would be remiss of us not to give you another chance to gaze in awe at the magnificent mother-to-be. Congratulations to the Carter clan!
Taraji P Henson and Janelle Monae prove that there’s no point winning a SAG award if you can’t hold it high in the air with a giant mega-watt smile on your face. There’s nothing better than seeing women unashamedly proud of their achievements – except maybe women supporting each other in their achievements. As Taraji captioned on this snap (referencing her Hidden Figures co-star Janelle), “YOU MY SISTER FRIEND have a very bright future ahead of you. I will be watching and cheering you on EVERY step of the way!!! So talented.”
If anyone can pull off “socks and sandals” it’s the inimitable Willow Smith. A poster girl for individuality, the 16 year old gives us a perfect example of what you might call an “anti-selfie”. Rather than pouting at the camera, she smiles up at the sky, eyes closed – completely unself-conscious. And that’s a tutorial we could all happily follow…
Is that a birthday cake… or is that a birthday cake? Celebrating with her fellow ‘Scandal’ cast members, Kerry Washington (looking very chic in curlers) was presented with this glorious gateau that she promptly shared with her Instagram followers. We’re starting to feel short-changed with our Colin the Caterpiller…
Proving that she’s no different from us normal, common folk – supermodel Jourdan Dunn did what most of us do come Christmas time… Nah, not really. While we were polishing off the last of the Quality Street, watching Call the Midwife and occasionally glancing at the frosted windowpanes – Ms Dunn was sunning herself aboard a yacht in the Bahamas in a gorgeous orange two-piece. How the other half live …
As a tribute to the late George Michael, Tyra Banks posted a vintage shot of the singer posing with herself and a bevvy of other 90s ‘supers’, with glossy hair, brown lipstick and pencil-thin eyebrows a plenty. For more nostalgia, check out the 1992 music video which the models appeared in, sashaying down the runway clad in racy outfits by Thierry Mugler. (Victoria’s Secret, eat your heart out …)
As a break from all the festive chintz, Iman treated us to this flashback snap of her taking a stroll through the streets of NYC, sporting a Vivienne Westwood leopard print bag and matching cropped coat, complete with shades and a 70s style wide brim hat. We now know which style icon we’ll be channelling for 2017…
It’s clear the Carter-Knowles household doesn’t do Christmas by halves (as if they would!) Crowning a successful year, Queen Bey treated us to a delectable slide show – featuring a tinsel-tastic tree, ballerinas, cupcakes and other festive gubbins. And then there was the lady herself - sporting a slash-cut frock and reindeer antlers, she posed and pouted and was her general fabulous self, while her rendition of Sleigh Ride played over the top.
“Feeling the matt grey lip tonight…” Ella Eyre noting in her caption for this snap she shared last week before her show at the 02 centre. Her MUA Yasmina Bentaieb proved that with such a bold lip choice, a simple slick of eyeliner and immaculately sculpted brows are all you need for statement make up. Ella’s trademark curls were styled into high bunchies, putting a fierce spin on “playground hair” that looks just incredible.
We’ve been long-time fans of Solange Knowles’ unconventional style and beauty to match. The songstress recently posted this flashback snap from 2010, featuring statement liner across the cut-crease, stunning sculpted tresses and a lip colour, which appears to be the most shiny and perfect of its kind in existence. Solange, we salute you…
To help us with our OITNB withdrawal symptoms (we’re still not over that shock ending to the last series), we stumbled upon this stunning image shared by one of its stars Danielle Brooks (aka “Taystee”). The actress was adorned with incredible body paint by Nigerian artist Laolu, whose designs are inspired by deities in Yoruba. (His work can also be seen in Beyonce’s Lemonade video album).
It’s a tough life being whisked to Paris to walk in the Victoria Secret show - AND having to have a facial on top of it all. Leomie Anderson – can we have your life please? Before donning her wings and walking the runway, the supermodel shared a snap of her incredible skin pre-show, the handywork of facialist extraordinaire Mzia Shiman. (And check out the model’s hilarious anti-Trump hoodie – love it!)
Joan Smalls totally hit it out ballpark with this jaw-dropping beauty look – seen at the Karl Lagerfeld for Lord & Taylor launch (where she was snapped with buddy Hailey Baldwin). We love everything about this – from the gorgeous bantu-knot/mermaid textured hairdo, to the sultry eyeliner and caramel-hued lipstick. We’d happily take Hailey’s milkmaid braid too. Killing it, ladies …
If your idea of Halloween style is more glamour than ghoul, take some inspiration from Amber Rose, who recently treated fans to this gothic chic look. We love the cute little stars applied below her eyes (a great camouflage for dark circles FYI!), complemented with sea-green liquid liner and deep plum lips – not to mention some fierce black square talons.
