Everyone’s favourite makeup maven is back with yet another covetable eyeshadow palette
Why you should invest
If you’re a beauty buff who regularly stalks MUAs on Instagram, you’ll probably be acquainted with Anastasia Beverly Hills. Her Modern Renaissance Palette is about as iconic a beauty product as L’Oreal Ellnett or Chanel Rouge Noir nail polish and we predict her latest Subculture Palette will sell out just as fast. Whereas Modern Renaissance was all about whimsical romance, Subculture is more directional and grunge-inspired, but just as flattering.
How to use
The palette offers 14 richly-pigmented shades to create all manner of eye looks, from subtle daytime definition to full-on evening glam. The earthy brown and apricot hues exude a bit of a 70s vibe, while the olive, shimmering bronze and gold remind us of the All Saints girls back in the late 90s. While that deep navy blue hue was reminiscent of the block blue eyeshadow that was all over the catwalks for SS17. With a dual-ended applicator, you can apply each shade as individual washes of colour over the lid (each one blends superbly) or combine a few for a kaleidoscopic smoky eye effect. The palette’s velvet-covered lid is an extra bonus (hello Pinterest!).
If you want the colour to seriously pop, a trick of the trade is to first prep the eyelid with white matte liner pencil before applying eyeshadow. We love NYX Professional Makeup’s Slide On Pencil in Pure White (£5.50, Feel Unique). Just gently smudge it over the area you want to colour, and follow with your chosen eyeshadows to make them really stand out.
