A winter skincare treat that’s
definitely worth the investment
One of the best things about the approaching winter (apart from the return of Downton Abbey) is that we indoors more and indulge in more pampering activities. The same goes for skincare and winter is the time to lavish extra love on weather beaten skin. The combination of cold winds, moist air and hot radiators can wreak havoc on even the most usually well-behaved skin.
Face masks are a great way to treat your skin and they can serve a dual purpose. Apart from addressing skin concerns, they also by default bestow at least 10 minutes of ‘me time’ for you to rest and relax while you wait for the magic to happen. For me, this means catching up on my reading, something I rarely get enough time to do during a busy week.
The mask market is vast with so many to choose from, but there really is one for every skin condition.
Feeling a bit rough?
Formulated with luxurious pink rose clay and jojoba beads to exfoliate and deep cleanse simultaneously, Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask, £23 will effectively smooth out your skin and beautifully bring it back to life. The clay absorbs excess oil and tightens pores whilst the beads buff away dead skin cells for a much improved skin condition.
Lost your sparkle?
Makers of the cult exfoliator Glow Tonic, Pixi Beauty has expanded their skintreats range to include Glow Mud Mask, £18 which is all about giving skin an almost ethereal radiance. There’s no need for strobing with this in your arsenal. The mineral rich and ginseng infused clay mask works to clarify your skin, minimise pores and invigorate tired skin with renewed va-va-voom.
Parched skin can feel sore, itchy and tight. Almost like if you smiled, it would crack. While you need to hydrate from the inside, a cosseting topical mask will also provide soothing relief. Single use Talika Bio Enzyme Hydrating Mask, £9 is super charged with alpine herb extract that attract moisture to the skin and raise the ante on your hydration levels. After one use skin feels deeply moisturised, plump and bouncy.
This is for long suffering skin that needs an overhaul to put to the rights previous neglectful behaviour. RMK Refreshing Gel, £35 is a treat on those nights (or mornings after a big night out) where you can’t commit to a full pamper session but want to wake up with glowing skin. Apply to clean skin before bed and whilst you sleep the soothing gel restores and fortifies your skin with moisturising rose and bilberry extracts. You could say it’s skin reborn.
And if your skin is suffering from all of the above, you could always adopt the new trend of multi-masking and use a different mask for different areas of concern.
