Cardi B returns with new music and a new wig made of doll heads

Just when you thought Cardi B couldn’t surprise you anymore, she pulls off a wig made of singing Barbie doll heads in her latest video.

Cardi B’s latest single, ‘Up’, has just been released, and it has already caused a stir – of course, we’d be surprised if it didn’t! Not only is the song a surefire hit, but its music video has already racked up over 26 million views on YouTube.

Directed by Tanu Munio, the video contains countless outfit changes and pop culture references, from TLC to the 80s New York hip hop scene. Plus, a soon-to-be iconic doll’s head wig designed by none other than Tokyo Stylez.

Stylez created the wig by several Barbie doll heads from their bodies, before curling each head’s mane and individually hot glueing them to a full-size wig of auburn hair for Cardi to don in the video.

To say this look is ‘creative’ is an understatement, especially when Stylez had already produced several unique looks for the video, including working with milliner Lory Sun to create an immaculate look inspired by TLC’s Left Eye. Of the look, Stylez wrote on Instagram, ‘I wanna give a special thanks to @lorysunartistry for helping me bring this vision to life with your amazing head pieces I was def inspired by one of my favorite female rappers “Left Eye” she was so ahead of her time with fashion and hair’.

Another scene sees Cardi wearing a flowing white Francesco Murano gown, with a neck full of diamonds and a full-bodied brunette wig. Stylez called the look ‘soft n pretty glam’, and we agree that it shows Cardi’s versatility when it comes to creating characters for her videos.

Recently named Billboard’s “Woman Of The Year 2020,” Cardi B made history with the explosive success of last summer’s blockbuster single, “WAP (Feat. Megan Thee Stallion),”. Currently certified 3x platinum by the RIAA, “WAP” debuted at number on the Billboard “Hot 100” upon its August release – Cardi’s fourth number single in the US, extending her record as the female rapper with the most number singles in “Hot 100” history and affirming her as the only female rapper to have reach number on the “Hot 100” in two different decades.

The track – which went on to spend four weeks atop the “Hot 100” while also spending multiple weeks at number one in Australia, Canada, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom – made further history as the first number one single on the inaugural Billboard “Global 200,” topping that chart for three weeks.

WAP (Feat. Megan Thee Stallion)“ is joined by an equally popular official companion video, now boasting more than 335M views via YouTube alone. Directed by Colin Tilley and featuring cameos from an all-female cast that includes Normani, Kylie Jenner, Rosalía, Mulatto, Rubi Rose, and Sukihana, the video also proved a record-shattering landmark, earning the biggest 24-hour debut for an all-female collaboration in YouTube history.
