PCOS and hair growth: Let’s talk about it

With September marking PCOS Awareness Month, Janet Davies, founder of Ominira Naturals, shares why she started the Inner Circle, a hair health club for women contending with hormone imbalance and hair issues.

Why PCOS Awareness Month Matters for Women’s Hair Health

As a Black woman, I don’t speak about this from a distance. I’ve lived it, and I’ve seen it in the women around me. Thinning edges get dismissed. Heavy periods get normalised. Underlying issues such as PCOS, fibroids and hormonal imbalances can go unrecognised, and women are often left to figure things out on their own.

So, when I built Ominira Naturals, it was never just about hair. It was about creating something that sees us.

The Connection Between PCOS, Hormonal Imbalance and Hair Loss

For women dealing with conditions such as PCOS or fibroids, hair loss is rarely just about hair. It can affect your confidence, your identity and the way you show up in the world.

I found that many products marketed to us don’t take any of that into account. They focus on quick results while ignoring what’s happening internally. I wanted to do things differently by recognising the connection between women’s hair health, hormones and overall wellbeing.

Creating Haircare for Women with Hormonal Challenges

We’re incredibly intentional about our ingredients, being mindful of what could potentially disrupt the body, especially for women already navigating hormonal challenges.

But if I’m honest, that’s just the starting point. The real work is in education and community.

The Inner Circle: Support for Hormonal Hair Loss and PCOS

Through our Inner Circle, we have honest conversations about things that aren’t always spoken about openly. We talk about hormonal hair loss, PCOS, stress and nutrition in a way that feels raw and real.

The goal isn’t to overwhelm women. It’s to help them feel seen, informed and supported. We share practical steps they can follow in everyday life, helping them make more confident decisions about their hair and health.

Bringing Hair, Health and Sisterhood Together

There’s also an in-person side to what we do. Last year’s Hair Growth Lab in New York was special because it brought everything together: hair, health, lifestyle and sisterhood.

You could feel the shift in the room when women realised they weren’t alone in what they were going through. That sense of connection is a vital part of the work we’re doing.

Restore Her: A Holistic Approach to Women’s Wellness

This year, with Restore Her, we’re going even deeper. It’s not just an event. It’s an intentional space for women to pause, be poured back into and start looking at their hair and health in a more holistic way.

So many of us carry so much and have been in survival mode for so long that we haven’t had the chance to ask ourselves, “Am I actually well?”

Helping Women Take Their Health Seriously

My hope is that women don’t just leave with products or information, but with a sense of clarity and permission to do things differently.

To take their health seriously. To ask better questions. To break generational cycles that have been passed down for years.

More Than Haircare: Building a Community That Understands Women

When someone chooses Omnira, yes, they’re choosing great products. But more than that, they’re choosing to be part of something that understands them, prioritises their wellbeing and is genuinely invested in seeing them whole.

Not just looking good on the outside.
