Hair, in all its emotional weight, has long been tied to identity. Most poignantly it’s how we see ourselves, or as the adage goes, our crowning glory. So, the experience of hair loss is not simply physical, but deeply psychological: a slow shift in confidence, in presence, in self-recognition. Perhaps this is why non-surgical solutions like scalp micropigmentation (SMP) are reshaping the conversation.

Sian Dellar is known for delivering subtle, yet, transformative results that restore confidence and enhance natural beauty. One of her most in-demand treatments is SMP, an effective, non-invasive solution for women experiencing hair loss, including alopecia and thinning linked to GLP-1 medications, creating the appearance of fuller, denser hair instantly.
Dellar tells us more about the about the transformative power of scalp micropigmentation, and how this subtle, non-surgical treatment is redefining confidence for those experiencing hair loss.
Who is scalp micropigmentation most suitable for?
It is best suited for people experiencing hair loss and those who want a natural looking, non-surgical solution with minimal upkeep. I’ve seen it work incredibly well for men and women with pattern baldness, thinning hair, alopecia or scarring. That said, it isn’t right for everyone. Clients with active scalp conditions need to resolve those first and SMP isn’t designed to create the look of long or dense hair, it creates the illusion of shaved follicles. Honest consultation is key. When expectations and suitability align, the results can be genuinely life changing.
Does pigment behave differently on the scalp compared to the face?
Yes. The scalp is thicker, has higher oil production and is exposed to the sun more, which means pigment must be placed more superficially and with far less saturation. On the scalp, precision is critical, too much depth or density can cause blurring or colour shift over time. High quality SMP relies on specialised pigments, controlled depth and gradual layering so the result stays natural and ages well.

How long do the results last?
SMP isn’t permanent, but it is long lasting. Realistically, clients can expect results to last four to six years, sometimes longer, depending on skin type, sun exposure and lifestyle. The pigment fades gradually and evenly, which is exactly what we want, no harsh colour changes. When done correctly, SMP ages very naturally and remains low maintenance long term.
What does good long term maintenance look like for scalp micropigmentation?
It starts with proper aftercare, protecting the scalp from excessive sun exposure and using SPF to slow fading. Keeping the scalp clean and well moisturised also helps the pigment age evenly. Most clients benefit from a light refresh every few years, rather than constant touch-ups. When SMP is done correctly, maintenance is minimal, the goal is for it to fade softly and naturally, not require ongoing fixes.
A real scalp micropigmentation testimonial

Diana Mckenzie
“After years of tight weaves. I noticed thinning along my hairline. It got to a stage it was impossible to hide. The SMP treatment subtly restored the appearance of density by softening the sparse areas without looking artificial. What I love most is how natural it feels; no one can quite pinpoint what’s changed, and on occasions I can wear braids and have a fuller looking hairline.”
