Nadine Bryan, founder of B:UNDE-NIABLE

There’s a new beauty guru on the block and she’s changing the cosmetics game for women of colour

The beginning of Nadine’s story will sound familiar. For years, she felt she had been overlooked when it came to quality make-up that suited her skin tone. Fed up, it spurred her on to create B:UNDENIABLE, a luxury mineral-based make-up range that catered to women of colour. We caught up with her to find out about her foray into beauty.

Tell us about B:Undenaible

I started by researching the haircare industry, and then creating and trialling my own products from home. I felt that there were already many established competitive brands vying for the market share, and as a ‘newbie’ I would have to have a unique selling point. I decided I would create my own range of mineral make-up, and after two years it became B:Undeniable.

What sets it apart from the other brands?

The company motto is ‘luxury products that enhance one’s beauty.’ We’re about empowerment, self-confidence and individuality. The collection has been developed to complement cool, olive Mediterranean skin tones to darker complexions by mimicking the skin’s undertones. this method has been used across our whole collection, from the foundations and eyeshadows to powders and lipsticks.

What advice would you offer to other budding entrepreneurs?

There are many highs and lows but don’t fret, the tough times set you apart from being a success or failure. It’s about learning, growth and persistence and understanding that many businesses don’t become successful overnight. Never give up and never give in if you want to win!

Why do you think it’s taken so long for mainstream brands to be more inclusive?

I think the rise o the personality/celebrity influencers who bring in sales has forced the beauty industry to take note. As a result, the token collaboration ranges are starting to wane as many of these personalities have struck out on their own. This has been highlighted by Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. It confirmed that if the industry won’t cater premium products to us then we’ll do it ourselves. With that comes high sales and revenue – after all it’s well documented that women of colour are willing to spend big if the product is right.

Who do you admire in the beauty industry?

I really like what Pat McGrath MBE is doing. She has organically grown within the industry and is renowned for her work, not to mention her fantastic high quality products.

What trends are you loving for SS18?

Creative eyelids (graphic eyes or galactic), reverse eyeliners that featured on NYFW / SS18 or bold lips and accentuating the cupid’s bow (which is trending everywhere at the moment) and understated eye make-up.
