Having worked with countless textured hair models and celebrities, Michelle knows a thing or two about styling curls into effortless looks for all occasions…
Speaking to Spell Magazine, Michelle said, ‘During lockdown, I’ve felt empowered by the Black Lives Matter movement. With my name and platform, I feel compelled to advocate for and embrace women of colour and their hair. I feel that there is no need to make our hair appear different to what it’s naturally meant to look like, and I want to promote the fact that understanding how to work with curly hair enables you to get the best out of it.’
Many of the most recent shots on Michelle’s Instagram page demonstrate the head-turning styles that can be achieved with 3a curls and up. However, the stylist also exhibits softer curls with romantic, wispy flyaways, like the above image.
In one caption, Michelle states, ‘This is definitely one of my favourite things to do… working with curls kinks and coils. I love that moment when the client looks in the mirror and they can’t believe that that is their hair… it just makes me smile 😊’.
Desperate to know whether we could achieve the looks on Michelle’s Instagram page, we asked her if there’s a curly style for everyone.
‘You have to analyse your face shape. That’s what inspires me when I do someone’s hair. If your face suits volume, then there’s probably a style that will suit you, whether you’ve got short hair or a long, full-bodied fringe look. I do believe that curly hair suits most people, but everyone is individual and it depends on their preferences.’
