Tell us about Mimi’s Studio
We specialise in luxury mink eyelash extensions, as well as other beauty services such as microblading for brows and semi-permanent make-up.
What inspired you to start a career in the beauty industry?
I went to university, then landed a job in real estate. I was selling strip lashes on the side when customers started asking me if I offered lash extensions. That kind of service wasn’t big in my community at the time, but I trained up and began taking clients in the evenings after work. It used to be my five-to-nine, butn ow it’s my nine-to-five.
What’s the best part of your job?
Getting to meet so many different people. I’ve met so many interesting and unique people in this job, and each time I talk to a client, I learn something new. Getting your lashes done is almost like a therapy session for some clients.
What’s trendy in lashes right now?
Coloured and bottom lashes are so popular for festivals or occasions like birthday and weddings. Also, mega volume lashes, also known as Russian volumes, are ultra-fine lashes which are easier to apply to each natural lash. They’re applied in a fan-like shape, which gives lots of volume!
What’s the secret to a perfect eyebrow?
Follow the natural shape of the brow. Some people think that beauty therapists create an eyebrow shape from scratch, when actually we work with and enhance the shape that is already there.
What are your tips for eyebrow and lash maintenance at home?
When it comes to microblading, cleanse your brows with a cotton pad and sterile water after your appointment. Leave your eyebrows to heal for around 10 days – that includes avoiding any oily products.
Lashes need a daily wash and, again, avoid oily products. We provide our clients with a free spooly at the end of their appointment for daily lash maintenance.
Any celebrity brow heroes?
Serena Williams! Her eyebrows are to-die-for.
