Stefan Bertin

The go-to session stylist for celebrities and magazine front covers, Stefan, loves being a Londoner and has a few ideas for changing the perception of natural hair.

“Since last year I’ve been working with Shea Moisture. I’m still super excited about the venture because I get to create content that will help people at home decide what products are best for their hair. My dayto- day job is being a session stylist for magazines and celebrities. Sometimes you get to run with your own ideas and be a creative butterfly, other times, the client knows what they want and there’s a brief you have to adhere to.

I’m a born and bred Londoner so it’s my home. I wouldn’t say there’s anything I dislike, well actually, maybe the cold winters, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I do like to travel and sometimes my job requires me to be away from home.

My personal hair aesthetic is all about the finish. I like hair to look expensive which doesn’t necessarily mean shiny and glam, just well done. The hair game has changed a lot in recent years – it isn’t so linear anymore which is really exciting. People are branching out and wanting their own unique style rather than just copying what’s trendy. There’s no rulebook and everybody should be able to do what they want with their own beauty as long they’re doing it for themselves and nobody else.

I’ve always worked with afro hair. If I could make a wish, I’d like to see more photoshoots and campaigns with natural hair. This will make women feel more confident when it comes to embracing their texture.”
