Empire‘s Jussie Smollett and The Chi‘s Jabari Redd star alongside the exceptional Vivica A. Fox in The Lost Holliday, a new drama about family dynamics, secrets and grief.

The film is Smollett’s second feature film as a director and writer, and centres around Cassandra Marshall (Fox) planning a funeral for her estranged son, Damien Holliday (Redd), only to find out that he was married to a man that she had never met, Jason Holliday (Smollett), who is already taking care of the funeral arrangements.
It’s via Jason, the couple’s adopted daughter Arielle (Londyn Carter), Jason’s sister Cheyenne (Brittany Hall), and best friend Duck (Marquise Vilsón), that Cassandra learns more about her son in death than she ever did in his life.
Celebrating LGBTQIA+ representation, and centring on how acceptance can help us get through difficult times concerning the relationships in our lives, The Lost Holliday is an enlightening, heart-warming tale that will leave you thinking about the characters long after the credits have rolled.
Spell Magazine Editor Jemima Cousins caught up with lead actors Jussie Smollett and Jabari Redd over Zoom to talk about their roles in the film, what motivated Smollett to write such an emotional story, representing minorities, and boys being taught how to braid hair!
